Mackay Police are trying to steer us away from sticky beaking when we notice a roadside crash. An appeal has been launched after Officers noticed drivers filming and photographing a heavy vehicle crash in the region recently. Officers are reminding us that not only is this illegal but also puts emergency services crews, other drivers, and the public at risk. Do not use a hand held mobile phone while driving, even if Police are too busy to issue an on the spot fine they have warned if your license plate is recorded you will receive an infringement notice.

We're still seeing hundreds of Domestic Violence Orders coming through the local courts, as we mark the start of Domestic Violence Prevention Month. In the months from July 2018 up to April this year, there have been 542 DVOs lodged with Mackay Magistrates Court, with another 753 the previous financial year. Liam Dooley from White Ribbon Australia says even if we're not directly affected, there are things we can do to make our community safer. The first step is to educate yourself, then look at how you can be an influencer within your community.

Sarina Beach lifesavers and lifeguards will get the chance to keep our swimmers safer thanks to the launch of a new drone. They have the potential to drop buoyancy devices to assist swimmers, while also checking for rips and any marine life like sharks and crocs. It’s one of twelve drones being launched across the State by WESTPAC with some also coming to Eimeo and Mackay Beaches. General Manager Corporate Services Craig Williams says in light of recent attacks, it's the perfect time to launch them.

As another month rolls around it’s time for another Council in Community Day. Councillors will be in Marian this afternoon with a community catch-up scheduled in Marian from 3:30pm until 4:30pm. You’ll find them at the Railway Hotel after they have a look at the Racecourse Mill, Greenmount Homestead, Eton Water Treatment Plant, Mount Vince Rifle Range, and Mirani Sewerage Treatment Plant.
