BREC is proud to announce our new Youth Theatre program and inaugural artistic director for 2018.

We welcome award-winning theatre director and producer Kathryn Osborne as the artistic director of this exciting new program. Kathryn has a vast amount of experience as a director, producer and theatre maker. She is a co-founder of Perth’s prolific theatre makers The Last Great Hunt and was the 2016 WA Young Achiever Award for the Arts. Kathryn has also had success as the artistic director of Mandurah’s Riptide Youth Performance Company and has recently returned from London where she worked at the Old Vic Theatre on a large-scale musical.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work with the passionate young creatives of Bunbury”, says Osborne. “In 2018 we will pilot a program that will include opportunities for 15-25 year olds to develop skills in making their own original new performances, as well as performing in them and working behind the scenes.”

Osborne elaborates “These new opportunities are designed to welcome local young people who are starting out on the journey to becoming performers and performance makers”.

BREC’s Executive Director Sharon Custers says “We feel that Bunbury can benefit from the success that Katt Osborne has had in Mandurah and empower our young people to let their voice be heard. It’s time to shake things up a bit”!

This new program brings new opportunities to the young people of the region and cements BREC’s commitment to supporting its young community.

Our first session will be an ‘Open Day’ Workshop. This is a free initial workshop for young people 15-25 to meet Kathryn and experience a taster of the whole program.

Membership to the youth company will be in semesters. The first semester will be Jan-Jun 2018 and consist of a range of master class workshops with professional artists from Perth and the making of the company’s first original production (which will premiere in Semester 2). A full schedule of activities and cost details will be available at Open Day.

Open Day: Sunday Dec 3rd 10.30am – 1.30pm at BREC. Registration is free and can be completed online at
