On October 24th 1978, the bodies of 3 travellers were discovered, shot dead 12km from Mount Isa. The victims included Karen Edwards, 23, Tim Thomson, 31, and Gordon Twaddle, 21.

Over 40 years later, fresh leads have cause the case to be reopened by police.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tara Kentwell of the Cold Case Investigation Team said they have remained committed to solving the case and bringing those responsible to justice.

She urged anyone who may have seen the group travelling in early October 1978 to come forward, adding:

"We are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen a male motorcyclist who befriended the group and joined them on their travels between Frewena and Mount Isa."
