Half of women in a recent survey say they have been followed on the street.

Plan International’s Sexism in the City report, a survey of 500 young women aged between 18 and 25 in Sydney was released today painting a shocking picture of how safe our streets really are.

The research found harassment most commonly begins between age 11 and 15 – and more than 80 per cent of respondents had been cat-called.

Half of respondents said they had been followed on the street, while 30% have had their paths blocked.

Plan International Australia’s city safety map for young women, Free To Be Sydney, aims to help women feel safer on the streets.
