More than 260 medical graduates are starting their hospital ward rounds this week in regional NSW, the largest number ever.

Some of those have started locally, with 25 allocated to Wagga Base Hospital and two to Griffith Base.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the new crop of interns is the next generation of talented professionals, at the front line of the health care system.

During their first year the graduates will complete compulsory terms in medicine, surgery and emergency.
