Eight search warrants were executed on properties in Highfields on March 15.

The Highfields Police with assistance from the Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad, General Duties and Child Protection and Investigation executed the warrants as a result of recent investigations leading to the raids on Friday.

12 people were arrested and charged with more than 25 offences including:

  • supply and possessing dangerous drugs
  • possessing drug utensils
  • unlawful possession of weapons

Police also seized a quantity of methylamphetamine (Ice), MDMA, cannabis, drug utensils and a conducted energy weapon (Taser).

All offenders are due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court over the coming months.

Of concern to police was the arrest of a 12-year-old boy who was charged with supplying dangerous drugs and a 16-year-old boy who was charged with Unlawful possession of weapons after being located in possession of a conducted energy weapon. Both boys were dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Operation Romeo Impact was started by Highfields Police in January 2019 to target those involved in the supply and possession of dangerous drugs. This on-going operation has seen over 20 search warrants executed on properties in Highfields and surrounding communities which to date have netted 23 offenders charged with over 35 drug related offences.

Operation coordinator Senior Constable Shane Wockner said that last week's arrests and arrests over recent weeks in Highfields had disrupted an organised syndicate of young males supplying dangerous drugs and would dismantle its local business model.

“While the results of this operation so far are satisfying, police still have more work to do and we will continue to be relentless in our fight against dangerous drugs in Highfields and surrounding communities.”

“As part of our response in combating this issue, police have also been working closely with various local organisations and schools focusing on deterrence and the rehabilitation of many of these offenders.”

“Illicit drugs such as methylamphetamine and cannabis have a devastating effect on our communities and I would encourage anybody who has information relating to suspected drug activity to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Highfields Police 4615 5309.” Senior Constable Wockner said.
