The mercury is set to soar across the Gold Coast with temperatures reaching around five degrees above the March average today.

It was expected to hit 32 degrees at the Gold Coast Seaway, while residents at Nerang and Coomera were set to sweat through a top of 35, as well as tomorrow.

Forecaster Michael Gray from the Bureau of Meteorology said it could cause some pretty warm nights as well.

"We're looking at temperatures in the South-East two to three degrees above average for the minimums at night," said Gray.

The heat was expected to stick around for a few days before cooling off slightly from Thursday.
