Since November 1 locals have been switching their rubbish for recycling and it has paid off.
Rather than dumping recyclable containers in the bin, Townsville households have embraced the containers for change scheme which has seen a mountain of material dropped off at local depots.
How big is that mountain though?
The containers and numbers have been crunched and it appears the Townsville region has seen over 4 million containers dropped off to depots, with that count expected to sky rocket once we all clean up from the festive season.
Figures show that an average of 1.3 million containers are being returned in Queensland every day!
