Meghan Markle's royal title has been revealed today ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry.

Kensington Palace announced that Meghan will be known as Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex after Harry was named the Duke of Sussex.

In a statement The Royal Family confirmed, "The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince Henry of Wales.  His titles will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel.

"Prince Harry thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, and Ms. Meghan Markle on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex."

Despite marrying a Prince, Meghan's official title is not Princess Meghan. This is similar to Kate Middleton, who became Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William.

The title of Princess is only given to those born into the Royal Family, such as Prince William's daughter Princess Charlotte and Prince Andrew's daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Lady Diana Spencer was popularly known as Princess Diana, but that was in fact a name given to her by the public. Her title upon marrying Prince Charles was actually Her Royal Highness The Princess Of Wales. After their divorce she was styled as Diana, Princess of Wales. As the mother of Prince William, who is second in line to the throne, she was still regarded as a member of the Royal Family.
