A man who killed a farmer by crashing into a tree whilst heavily drunk and speeding on a rural road in Western Australia will spend at least two-and-a-half years behind bars.

Father-of-three Robert Lindsay Hooper, 43, died in the early hours of December 4, 2015, after the ute he was travelling in left the road in Ongerup and smashed into trees, ripping off the passenger side of the vehicle and throwing him from the car.

Rodney Palmer Spencer, 54, who was doing contract work for Mr Hooper, was found guilty in the District Court of WA of dangerous driving causing death and was sentenced on Tuesday to four-and-a-half years in jail.
