UPDATE: All lanes on the M1 have reopened following a serious traffic incident during in the lead up to peak hour.

A male pedestrian was killed after being hit by a truck in the northbound lanes at Reedy Creek near Exit 85.

EARLIER: A major traffic incident on the M1 at Reedy Creek has caused chaos for morning commuters.

All the northbound lanes near Exit 85 were closed following an incident involving a truck and a pedestrian just after 7am on Thursday.

Queensland Ambulance crews were on scene assessing a patient for critical injuries.

The crash was causing traffic gridlock all the way south to Currumbin with motorists told to expect delays of up to 40 minutes.

Translink also issued a warning for people to expect lengthy bus delays due to the congestion.
