Police fear that without the help of a passing motorist an assault in Aitkenvalcould have been a lot worse. 

A woman was assaulted around 8:30pm on Sunday along Alfred Street.  

The offender was trying to take a woman's mobile phone.

A passing motorists was quick to intervene and scare the man off.

The motorist performed a U-turn before scaring the young indigenous man off from the scene. 

Police investigations are continuing today.
