Tassie Comedian Hannah Gadsby is going out of the comedy scene on her terms.

Gadsby has claimed the "BARRY" award at the 2017 MELBOURNE COMEDY FESTIVAL and is set to return to Tassie after retiring from the comedy circuit.

The award was announced at the traditional late-night ceremony at The Festival Club, with Gadsby’s show Nanette edging out Damien Power’s Utopia: Now In 3D!, Anne Edmonds’ No Offence, None Taken, Tom Walker’s Bee Boo, Richard Gadd’s Monkey See, Monkey Do and Sammy J’s Hero Complex

The Barry Award was named after founding patron of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Barry Humphries, and to qualify a show must be performed at least 10 times throughout the festival.

The final winner is judged by a secret panel of media and industry professionals and is regarded as one of the highest honours in the comedy world.

Following the award announcement Gadsby confirmed she will perform an encore show of Nanette next Saturday 29 April at The Comedy Theatre.
