Jimmy & Nath Chat To Australian Of The Year Grace Tame
*Sensitive content warning. This article talks about sexual abuse and could be upsetting for some readers*
This morning on the show, Jimmy & Nath spoke to Australian Of The Year 2021, Grace Tame, who is also Tasmania's first ever recipient of the award. The guys spoke to her about what the award meant to her.
For a bit of a background, Grace is a 26-year-old advocate for survivors of sexual assault. From age 15, Grace was groomed and raped by her 58-year-old maths teacher, who was found guilty and jailed for his crimes.
Her story has been incredible. Under Tasmania's sexual assault victim gag laws, Grace couldn't legally speak out about her experience.
Grace applied to the Supreme Court to win the right to publicly self-identify as a rape survivor and becoming the first Tasmanian woman to do so.
She has since been a regular guest speaker for high-profile events and uses her voice to push for legal reform and raise awareness about the impacts of sexual violence.
