Have you ever seen anything so full of Splendour?

The 18th annual Splendour In The Grass returned to Byron Bay this year; the country’s biggest (and best) musical festival.

Featuring headliners Kendrick Lamar and Lorde, international acts in James Bay, The Wombats and Chvrches and incredible Aussie artists in The Presets, Amy Shark, PNAU and Gang Of Youths. Over three huge days, Splendour brings people from all over the country and all over the world together in celebration of good music, good company and good times.

So once tickets were secured, our outfits were planned and we’d packed ALL of the glitter, the question of transport remained. How are we getting to and from Byron?

From Newy, of course you could drive. But that’s seven and a half hours of your life you’ll never get back and I’ll be honest, I hate a road trip. There’s only so much scroggin one person can eat!

You could perhaps fly to the Gold Coast and drive on down, but that’s a flight AND a hire car you’re paying for and a whole lot of mucking around.

Or you could cut out all that hassle and go direct from Newcastle Airport straight into Ballina Byron Airport with Fly Pelican like we did! The gateway to Splendour In The Grass. With Fly Pelican, I was able to do the radio show Friday morning, be at the airport by 9:30am and was greeting the friendly Pelican pilots for a 10:30am takeoff.

Now the ease of which you can get into Ballina is actually nothing compared to the ease of coming home! Come Monday, after three full days of partying; trust me, those other options of driving or flying out of the Gold Coast start looking pretty damn rough.

When Monday morning rolled around, we were able to enjoy a bit of a sleep in, grab brekkie in town and soak up the Byron sunshine before slowly make our way to the airport for a perfectly timed 12:15pm flight. Just quietly, does anyone else love a midday flight? Late enough that you have time to pack up your accommodation without rushing but early enough that when you’re forced to check out by 10am, you don’t have hours to kill before a night-time flight.

Touching back down at 1:35pm, completely spent from a huge weekend but so thankful for the ease in which the bookends of the trip, the getting there and coming home, was made with Fly Pelican! 11/10 would recommend!
