TWO people have become entrapped in a car after a nasty smash at Bilinga this morning.

Their sedan crashed into a 4WD at the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Kirribin Street at 9:12am on Friday.

Fire crews raced to the scene, where they had to cut the pair free using hydraulic lifting equipment.

Both were freed within an hour and were promptly checked over by paramedics, before they were both transported to hospital in serious conditions.

One had pelvic injuries, the other chest and rib injuries.

Police shut the southbound lanes of the major road while emergency services were on scene.
