News has broken that an iconic feature of the WATPAC Townsville 400 won't be included from 2019.

The Miss Supercars competition has been scrapped and will leave the Supercars atmosphere without big smiles from the model hopefuls.

The 2012 winner Melanie Bragg spoke with Cliffo & Gabi about the conspiracy as to why the comp has been cut.

"It's quite sad, I think it's kind of avoided a little bit, but it seems to be because of the belief that women are objectified mostly in the field," said Mel.

"What the girls have been wearing recently is probably more than what I see most people wear on the streets of Townsville these days."

In regards to her experience in 2012, Mel told Cliffo & Gabi that there was nothing wrong with the contesting.

"It was very classy to be honest, I think if anyone were to make any comments they would be asked to leave."

The girls would always add a lot of atmosphere to the weekend, adding a strong social element including getting photos with fans.

"Probably the worst thing that would happen is you'd get a wolf whistle."

We're running a poll on our Facebook page at the moment with 280 votes saying it should've stayed and 154 happy to see it scrapped.
