Inmates At Western Sydney Prison Storm Roof In Dramatic Scenes
Inmates at a correctional facility climbed onto the roof at a Western Sydney prison on Monday afternoon.
Up to 14 prisoners at the Parklea Correctional Centre made their way to a wing-section of the facility, dangerously setting fires to parts of the area.
Armed guards were called in to tame the inmates, as fire services arrived to extinguish the multiple blazes.
The jail's Immediate Response Team used smoke grenades on the protesting prisoners before moving in on the prisoners around 5pm.
Correctional Centre Governor Paul Baker praised the jail's Security Operations Group and the NSW fire services for their efforts.
"The officers have done an excellent job, utilising their specialised training, to resolve this situation safely."
Corrective services will investigate the fires that led to the dramatic scenes.
