Hundreds Of Students Are Wagging School Over Climate Change

Hundreds of students across Sydney are preparing to skip school today in the name of climate change.

Big School Walk Out for Climate Action is behind the campaign, which will kick off from around noon at NSW Parliament, alongside other locations across the country.

"We are striking from school to tell our politicians to take our futures seriously and treat climate change for what it is - a crisis," organisers explain on their website.

"They can show us that they care by taking urgent action to move Australia beyond fossil fuel projects and get the job done of moving us to 100% renewable energy for all."

It's certainly caught the attention of the government, however Education Minister Rob Stokes says kids should be in school.

"The best way you can make a difference about issues you feel passionate about it to get a great, quality education," he told the Hit Newsroom.

"To take advantage of the opportunities provided, and then on the basis of that education, go out and make a difference."
