A 75-year-old member of the Benalla Gliding Club has died during a National Gliding competition in Queensland.

The Melbourne man's glider crash-landed in a rural property at Boggabilla over the NSW side of the border.

He's been described as an experienced pilot, with decades of competition flying under his belt.

Police say the pilot was roughly six minutes into his flight before the plane suddenly spiralled towards the ground.

The pilot died at the scene, and an investigation is underway into the cause of the crash.



There's been a break and enter at Shepparton High School this morning.

Police were called out just after half past three after offenders smashed through a window to gain access to the science lab.

Officers don't believe any items were stolen no one was located on site, and enquiries are continuing.

CFA were called out after the intruders let off a fire extinguisher in the building prior to their getaway.


A hay shed, north-west of Euroa is expected to burn for several days - after catching fire yesterday afternoon.
