Albury-Wodonga is keeping residents safe by postponing, cancelling or adapting events to better follow advice from government and health officials in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tim & Jess caught up with Director of Pandemic Response for Albury Wodonga Health, Sally Squire, to find out how you can help prevent the spread of coronavirus locally, and how rural communities stand in relation to big cities during a crisis such as this.

Here are some of the local events recently affected by the coronavirus situation...

Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup

The Commercial Cup Albury Gold Cup will continue without any spectator attendance.

The Man From Snowy River Festival

The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival has been postponed indefinitely.

Due to take place in Corryong from April 2nd - 5th, ticket holders, competitors and vendors have been advised to hold onto their paperwork as event organisers work on rescheduling to a September date, which is due to be confirmed over the next week.

Best Border Easter Egg Hunt

The Best Border Easter Hunt has been postponed, however the fundraising will continue through the 'Sponsor an Egg' draw, with cash prizes up for grabs!

Ticket holders have the option to transfer their admission to an alternate event, and all are encouraged to continue supporting Boys to the Bush and Betty's Place.

Yackandandah Folk Festival

The Yackandandah Folk Festival (YFF) has been officially cancelled.

The YFF Committee extended sympathies to all those impacted by the decision, and assured that they will be contacting all volunteers, ticket holders, vendors and other stakeholders in the coming days.

Anzac Day Services

Anzac Day services across the country (NSW, QLD, VIC, TAS, WA) have been cancelled more than a month out from April 25th, with the decision largely based around elderly veterans and members of the public who are most vulnerable to the coronavirus.

A selection of dawn services will be held with public being asked not to attend. Instead residents have been asked to commemorate the day by tuning into services via radio, social media or television, and by taking a moment to reflect on the sacrifice of veterans and those still serving our country today.

Let us know other local events that have been cancelled or affected in the Facebook comments.
