This International Women's Day, Hit92.9’s Heidi Anderson sat down with the Head of the Hit Network, Gemma Fordham, to record an exclusive podcast episode in celebration of the inspirational women at our Network.

A few years ago, Heidi opened up about her anxiety on air for the first time, explaining the extremely dangerous impact it was having on her life.

Now, she’s continued the conversation a few years on, reflecting on how much she has grown and how much healthier her life has become now that she is taking care of herself properly.

“You do have to be vulnerable if you are suffering,” she advised to anyone suffering from mental health issues. “Do reach out.”

“And i know it’s gonna be really hard but reach out because I can tell you what, it was honestly one of the greatest moments of my life because I felt so much relief."

Speaking very candidly, Heidi stripped back the curtain and recounted the conversations she was having last year with her radio directors and producers about what she was going through and how she decided to open up to her team about it.

“I got really overwhelmed with work and the wedding. I remember she just said ‘you just need to talk to the guys’ because sometimes anxiety brings out a bit of anger for me and I don’t mean to be, because I’m quite a warm person… I’m not there, I’m in my head.

“She got me to have this vulnerable moment with them, and then after that, that’s when I decided to email the team and just say ‘hey guys, these are some of the things you’ll see if I’m anxious, this is what I will do.”

Ultimately, Heidi says:

“At the end of the day, I just want to be happy and that is how I know I can be. By sharing these things so that people truly understand me and anxiety.”
