Heathcote Road Closed Following Fatal Crash

There are major delays on Heathcote Road this afternoon following a fiery multi-vehicle crash in Sandy Point.

The accident happened just after 2.30pm this afternoon, with one person trapped.

According to NSW Police, emergency services were called to the scene after a car and truck collided head-on.

The car caught fire after impact, and the driver died at the scene. They have not been formally identified.

The truck driver has been taken to Liverpool Hospital with a minor hand injury. 

A crime scene has been established and police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

The following diversions are in place:

• Westbound diverted via New Illawarra Road, Alfords Point Road, Davies Road, Fairford Road and use M5 Motorway or Canterbury Road and Newbridge Road to join Heathcote Road.
• Eastbound motorists should consider using M5 Motorway or Newbridge Road and Canterbury Raod, Fairford Road, Davies Road, Alfords Point Road, New Illawarra Road to join Healthcote Road.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Local residents will only be allowed access under police direction.
