Enjoy a cold beer or cider is one of the best things to do on the Melbourne Cup long weekend, and hanging out with Australian wildlife is the icing on the cake!

Healesville Sanctuary will host the first Hop Fest, a new four-day event celebrating the brewing history of the Yarra Valley. Ticket holders will be able to sample unlimited beer and cider from many local breweries, such as St Ronan’s Cider, Hargreaves Hill and Watt’s River Brewing.

You won’t go hungry either with plenty of gourmet-style street food on offer, like salt and pepper squid, sticky ribs, and pulled post and jackfruit tacos. There will be local musicians and bands ready to set the mood too.

Maybe the most exciting part is that you get to go and meet lots of animals that are in the sanctuary. What an ideal day!

If you and your mates are all cider fans, there will be a round-trip shuttle bus from Lilydale Station for $5. If you’ve got a designated driver, there will be an overflow carpark available at the Don Road Sporting Complex.

Where: Healesville Sanctuary, Badger Creek Road, Healesville

When: 11am-4pm, 3rd-6th November

Price: $40-$49
