Hay has been selected for a new drought initiative aimed at providing Murrumbidgee youth living on drought-affected farms a weekend of adventure and relief.
The program, which is funded under the MPHN's Pitch Night, will give >40 young people (aged 14–17) an opportunity to join in 1 of 4 off-road adventures to the New South Wales and Victorian high country between November 2019 and April 2020.
The program will include activities like four-wheel driving, hiking, camping and fishing.
This morning Bronte & Sam caught up with Giz A Break co-founder Soenke Tremper to find out more about the initiative, and what this means for Hay.
“The program is designed for the young people to work on strategies to tackle challenging situations together, which will help them take their mind off the dry times at home and build long-term resilience."- Mr Tremper
The Giz A Break Drought Initiative will be launched at the Hay Lions Football & Netball Club at 5:30pm on October 16th, with an information session to be held at the Hay War Memorial High School at 1pm on the same day.
Program information and registration forms will be available at the launch event, or can be downloaded now at www.gizabreak.com.au.
