A new survey has found half of Australians would prefer to live with a pet than a human housemate.
The survey, commissioned by RealEstate.com found one in four renters had lied about owning a pet when applying for a property, with a similar number trying to hide their pet during inspections.
The findings come days after Bondi Vet Chris Brown, threw his support behind the Victorian government's plans to flip rental laws on their head.
The government has pledged to bring in a new process, where animals would be allowed by default and landlords would be required to show why their property was not suitable.
The policy is part of the Victorian government’s yet-to-be seen rental reforms.
