Easter is just around the corner and Griffith Easter Party preparations are in full swing! You'll be able to get in on all the action from Thursday, April 18 to Monday, April 22!

Councillor Christine Stead, Chair Tourism and Events Committee suggests the Easter Thursday market is the place to begin your Easter celebrations.

“Bring along your basket and stock up on honey, oranges, biscotti and other Easter treats at the special Easter Rotary produce and craft market,” said Councillor Stead.

Located at the Griffith showgrounds, the market runs from 7am-12pm providing you with a great chance to stock up on local produce and wares before your visitors arrive for the weekend.

Why not stop by Altina Wildlife Park on Thursday where they are offering an egg-cellent adventure – an Easter egg hunt under the watchful eye of the Meerkats and Red Pandas! Make sure you book ahead by visiting altinawildlife.com.au

Councillor Stead said another favourite for locals is the annual Bacchus on the Lake Family Fun Run held on Good Friday.

“The Bacchus on the Lake Family Fun Run is one of the oldest fun runs in Australia,” said Councillor Stead.

“Organised by the Feral Joggers, there are three courses on offer - an 8km walk, 5km sprint and 10km enduro for the fit, competitive runner. No matter which track you take, out by the lake first thing in the morning, it’s a great place to start your day.”

If you are looking for a little more action on Good Friday, head to Fair Day in Bagtown at Griffith Pioneer Park Museum. This fantastic open-air museum set on 11 hectares of picturesque bushland operates with all the bells and whistles.

“The steam engines rumble to life, Tango Joes store will be open for business, there will be an olden day fair, vintage vehicles, pony rides, blacksmithing and more, this is a not to be missed event for the entire family to enjoy,” Councillor Stead said.

“Friday night you can enjoy delicious Griffith cuisine at any one of our fantastic pubs, clubs and restaurants.

“Griffith is famous for pizza and you will not be disappointed by the choices available – but if you would prefer to try something more traditional for Good Friday, the Clubs offer great bistros and seafood nights, while the large number of restaurants offer cuisines from around the globe,” she added.

Saturday morning you can stroll down Banna Avenue for the sidewalk sale, Children’s Brunch and games in the park and the creative family fun day as Griffith Regional Gallery spills into the park with creative hands-on fun.

“Our Main Street comes to life on Easter Saturday with sales and many free activities for little people – including an egg hunt, buskers, entertainers and more. Enjoy brunch, pick up a bargain or two and keep the entire family entertained for the morning,” Councillor Stead said.

“Wind down on Saturday afternoon with the annual Griffith Vintage Festival, a great fusion of local wine, food and live music on the lawns of the old Miranda Wines site. This popular event sells out quickly, so be sure to book your tickets at unwinedriverina.com.”

On Sunday the pace slows down, and you are invited to explore the winery cellar doors of the region. Discover lesser known Italian varietals such as Fiano and Nero D’Avola, sample the local Prosecco, enjoy the region’s Durif or a winery tour. Relax with friends in the winery gardens with wine and antipasto plates, live music and enjoy the balmy autumn weather.

Councillor Stead said Easter Sunday is a great chance to explore our local wineries and take in any one of the fantastic events being held.

“Check out Celebrazione at De Bortoli Wines, enjoy wood fired pizza and live music at Yarran Wines, or head to McWilliam’s Wines at any stage over the weekend, where there will be activities for the children while parents can enjoy sampling new releases, Tumut River Brewing, take in a tour and much more – Griffith is the place to be this Easter!” she said.
