It wasn’t only Christmas that made December an expensive month…Gold Coast motorists were hurt at the bowser thanks to a spike in petrol prices.

RACQ has revealed last month the region coped a record two-and-a-half year petrol price high.

With an average unleaded petrol price of 142.4 cents per litre, Gold Coast servos sold some of the most expensive fuel in the State.

“Gold Coast motorists were charged more for fuel than 30 of the 33 regional Queensland towns and cities we monitor. It’s outrageous and there’s no good reason for it. We saw a slight increase in the global price of oil, but there’s no way to justify these high prices,” RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said.

“The average on the coast was also higher than that of the major Australian capital cities.”

Thankfully, Ms Smith said the Gold Coast was now in the discounting phase of the SEQ petrol price cycle, but drivers should avoid filling up until prices dropped further over the next week.
