A five-year-old girl had an eventful first day of school after falling asleep and being trapped on a bus for hours yesterday afternoon.

The girl's mother, Bobbie Langdon, took to social media regarding the incident, saying that the child failed to come home from Jimboomba State School on Monday.

It is understood that she fell asleep on the bus, and was left inside when the driver parked the Logan Coaches vehicle.

"Alyssa was located petrified, crying and banging on the school bus doors to get out," Ms Langdon said, reports Nine News.

"For five long hours she slept.

"My daughter will not be attending Jimboomba State School anymore and Logan Coaches will be hearing from my family lawyer."

The girl was found at approximately 7.30pm, which is nearly four-and-a-half hours after the school day ended.

Speaking this morning on a Brisbane radio station, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said that bus companies are reminded to check that the buses are empty before disembarking, and children should be aware of their bus routes.

"I hope that bus company will do a review about what happened, and ensure that it definitely doesn't happen again," she said.
