Twelve new police officers will be stationed in West and South Gippsland over the coming months.

825 recruits are currently being trained at the Police Academy in Melbourne and will start to be deployed from May. Morwell will receive ten family violence specialists, while Warragul and Wonthaggi will receive one each.

Police Commissioner Graham Ashton told Hit FM News this morning they've been able to bolster forces in areas which haven't received additional members in a long time. "It enables us to really stabilize and grow our numbers to the level they need to be at right across the state."

The deployment will take place over the next 15 months.
