The price of fresh fruit and vegetables is set to soar in the aftermath of a summer of natural disasters.

Heatwaves and floods over the last month or so has seen the destruction of leafy vegetables and beans, with prices on the rise on the shelf.

According to 9News, lettuce has jumped from $2 to $4, and broccoli from $3 to $10 per kilogram.

There are also reports of cauliflower doubling in price, while green beans leap from $6 to $25 per kilogram.
