Last month, actor Matthew Perry, who is best known for playing Chandler Bing on Friends, was admitted to hospital for emergency surgery.

At the time, a representative for the actor told The Daily Mail that he was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles to repair a gastrointestinal perforation and that "he is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals."

Now, the actor has taken to Twitter to confirm that he has actually been in hospital for a whopping three months!

The tweet alleges that he has been in hospital a lot longer than originally suggested.

The 49-year-old actor underwent gastrointestinal surgery after suffering a perforated bowel, a condition which can be life-threatening, and surgery for which can be followed by various complications.

He has been open about his health struggles in the past, most notably when at the peak of his Friends fame in the late 1990s, he completed a course of rehab for addiction to painkillers.

He then went into rehab again in 2001, for addictions to Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines and alcohol.

Most recently, Matthew opened Perry House, a sober living facility in Malibu.

In 2013, he received a Champion of Recovery award from the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy.
