The NSW Rural Fire Services is reminding residents in the Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Murrumbigee and Narrandera areas that fire permits are still required until the end of March.

The bush fire danger period ends on March 31 in the MIA district meaning that anyone wishing to light a fire, will required to have a permit.

Residents must also notify neighbouring land owners, local captain, and their local fire authority prior to burning.

"Although Summer is over, we are still in the bush fire danger period, precaution needs to be taken when carrying out agricultural burns."

Urging residents to remember that now is not the time to become complacent about the fire risks this season. 

Permits are free and available from your local permit office or Fire Control Centre.
