Melbourne's Fed Square will be getting a brand spanking new Apple store.
The store will be Australia’s first ever Apple Global Flagship Store and it will replace the existing Yarra Building and the development will create nearly square metres of new public space.
“This will be the only new generation Apple store in Australia – bringing millions more visitors to Victoria and breathing new life into Federation Square,” Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren said today.
The store will help educate the community through the “Today at Apple” programming — free sessions across photography, music creation, app development, visual arts, and more Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president, Retail said.
“We’re thrilled to move forward in the planning process for our new home in Melbourne’s Federation Square and would be honoured to call the world-class galleries and museums of Melbourne our neighbours,” she added.
The redevelopment will create more than 250 construction jobs and support more than 200 new ongoing jobs across the precinct once complete. Construction is set to begin early 2019 and the store will open in 2020.
The store is part of a broader effort to reinvigorate Federation Square.
