A new era of social netball is launching in SA.

Fast5 sees 5 players take to the court instead of 7 and game time is just 24 minutes (6 min quarters, quarter and half time breaks) meaning it’s perfect for those looking for a quick cardio-workout.

With shorter quarters, rolling substitutions, multiple point shots and double point power-plays, it's social netball reimagined.

Fast5 has gathered immense momentum throughout Australia since the World Series began in Melbourne in 2016.

Three, eight week competitions will begin at Adelaide's Priceline Stadium from early February:

Mad Mondays - Feb 5 - April 9

9.30am-10am described as perfect for stay-at-home parents, part-time workers or retirees looking to increase or maintain their fitness levels.

Throwback Thursdays - Feb 8 - March 29

6pm-7.15pm described as perfect for your social or work netball team who's looking for change. Fast5 Power Plays and multiple point shots will challenge and entertain the most experienced netballers.

Sunday Sessions - Feb 11 - April 8

6pm-7.30pm glorious summer and autumn nights out on the court with your mates, what perfect way to finish the weekend!

Adelaide Thunderbirds player and member of the Fast5 Australian team Kate Shimmin, is the ambassador for Fast5 in SA.

"Fast5 is perfect for groups of friends, or colleagues looking to socialise away from the office" Kate said.

"The rule changes have put an exciting twist on the game.. challenging the most experienced netballers, while newcomers can step into a fun and social netball environment".

Kate's shared her ‘five handy hints for how to rule at Fast5 Netball’.

  1. Make sure you use the rolling subs! Without the wing positions (WA and WD) you’ll be covering more distance on the court and you’ll need to take a breather.
  2. Use the power play quarter to your advantage! During the power play quarter all your goal scores are doubled. Aim to score 4 pointers or 6 pointers all quarter.
  3. It's always best to take the power play in the second or third quarter so your shooters can get their eye in.
  4. Remember that the centre passes don’t alternate, the centre pass is taken by the team that didn’t score the last goal. So be ready for that rule change!
  5. Don't be afraid to use the space of the court! Remember you are missing two players on the court so you have more room to play with.

"For those leading busy lives, you can play a game during your lunch break or easily squeeze a game in on a weekday evening or the weekend" Kate said.
