Police are appealing for public assistance following a burglary at a fast food outlet in Carnegie on Monday.

Glen Eira-Bayside Crime Investigation Unit detectives believe two unknown males broke into the store, on the corner of Princes Highway and Koornang Road, about 1.45am on the 7th of August.

One of the males used a cricket bat to smash through a glass pane before jumping the counter and taking a safe containing a quantity of cash, while the second male kept a lookout.

Both left shortly after in a black or dark blue sedan, possibly an older model Toyota Corolla.

The car is believed to have been bearing stolen number plates with registration 1AW8NE.
