Europe is set to be hit by an extreme heatwave, with temperatures rising up to 40C.

Official weather office Meteo France issued an orange "heatwave" warning for Paris and the neighbouring Seine-et-Marne region due to a hot air current coming in from the Sahara desert.

It’s expected to reach a maximum of 32-35 degrees at the start of the week, later rising to 38-40 degrees, Meteo France said.

Similar heat is expected in Switzerland and Belgium.

While Germany is also preparing for the heatwave hitting the country from Tuesday. Meteorologists expect a peak on Wednesday and do not rule out the record for the hottest-ever measured temperature in Germany might be broken.
