There are more than 3,000 dogs registered in the Norwood, Payneham, St Peters Council but no dog park.

That could soon change if residents throw their support behind a Council proposal to create the first of its kind in the Eastern suburbs.

Mayor Robert Bria is hopeful a community consultation will give them an idea of how many people would be keen for one.

The NPSP Council website states - "there are 11 Dog Off-Leash Areas for you and your dog to enjoy. Dog Off-Leash Areas are parks where dogs may run and socialise, leash-free, at various times."

Community consultation is expected to start early next year.
