Dubbo will host the Combined High Schools (CHS) State Rugby Union Championships from Wednesday 23 May 2018 to Friday 25 May 2018 at Dubbo’s premier sporting facility, Apex Oval.
New South Wales CHS Football provides opportunities for students in the secondary public school system in NSW to play for their schools in state wide knockout competitions. Students play to represent their school, to gain selection in CHS teams and play against students from the private school sector, with many students gaining selection in NSW and Australian teams in both public and private sectors.
Mayor of the Dubbo Region Ben Shields welcomes the event to the region.
“It’s great to see another well recognised sporting event accessing our excellent facilities here in Dubbo. Our Apex Oval has an international sand based playing surface, 360 degree amphitheatre and first class facilities I’m sure all the students will enjoy playing on” said Councillor Ben Shields.
Clr Shields also added that the event will inject a considerable amount to the region’s economy over the three days.
“This event will see twelve (12) teams from across New South Wales visit our city. These 12 teams will have numerous people accompanying the players, from coaches to referees to family members who have come along in support. All of these visitors will enjoy the hospitality of the Dubbo Region, spending money with our accommodation providers, restaurants, retailers and tourist attractions, it’s a great boost to the local economy,” said Councillor Ben Shields.
Apex Oval has hosted other large scale sporting events such as City V Country, A-League Trial Game and Australian Wallabies training Camp in the past with positive feedback being received from all teams.
