Dive Pyramid Off The Spit A Step Closer To Becoming A Reality

Divers are a step closer to exploring a massive pyramid in the ocean off The Spit.

Council was set to call for tenders on Friday, for the design and construction of the structure, that would eventually be be sunk off Narrowneck to create a unique tourist attraction for the Gold Coast.

The artificial reef was expected to bring thousands of extra tourists and millions of dollars to the coast over the next decade, as well as provide up to 18 jobs during construction and another 80 in the dive industry once it was built.

It was expected to cost up to $5 million, with the city set to split the cost with the state government.

The pyramid would be around 30m deep, with the highest point just eight metres below the surface, allowing beginner and expert divers alike to explore it. 

The successful design was expected to be announced by the middle of the year.
