Cyclone Owen Puts Dampener On Council's Tropical Christmas Plans

Santa was due to visit us this weekend on the sandy shores of the Strand. 

However, Cyclone Owen has other plans which have forced Council to cancel theirs. 

Townsville City Council's 'Santa on the Sand' was going to be a great family event this Sunday where you could snap a family photo (pets were welcome!) with Santa in a tropical setting. 

Living in our tropical paradise though, means that we also get to enjoy summer storms and Owen has decided to bring rain on Saturday night/Sunday morning. 

The news follows the cancellation of Carols by Candlelight last weekend which should've packed Riverway Stadium with thousands of carolling locals.
