Power has been restored to more than a thousand homes in the northern suburbs, after a crash took out electricity to 15 hundred properties this morning.

The lights went out to places in Labrador, Runaway Bay and Biggera Waters after a car struck a power pole at the corner of Government Road and Ashton Street just before 6am.

The power lines were brought down but the driver of the vehicle managed to escape unharmed.

Energex crews raced to the scene and managed to get the power back on around an hour later, although Government Road was shut for a few hours while the fallen powerlines were cleared.

It reopened just before 9:00.

Meanwhile, a patient was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital after a nasty crash at Staplyton.

A truck and motorbike collided at the corner of Henry Hester Drive and Staplyton Jacobs Well Road around 5:45am, with critical care paramedics called to the scene.

They treated one person for significant leg injuries.
