Seeing in a sunrise at Townsville beaches could soon be a sure thing, if you're quick to book your camping spot online.

Townsville City Council have an idea that could see us having to book a camping spot in the northern beaches like Saunders.

While the focus of the online booking system is to make things easier for tourists (guaranteeing themselves a place to stay when they arrive) there's nothing stopping locals from getting on board too!

There's already an online system for camping at Lake Paluma and boating on Ross River, and Council say there plans are to do adopt a plan similar to those systems.

Those in favour of the idea say it'll bring money into the city if the campers are given an improved experience in our region.

Planning and Development Committee Chair Les Walker says that Insta has played a part in the demand for the online booking system.

“Social media has lured more people to our region and there’s been a surge in demand for no-cost and low-cost camping areas,” Cr Walker said.

With Magnetic Island recently voted the most Instagrammable location in Australia we want to show off even more of our glorious region.”

“The online booking system means people can enjoy their drive to Townsville, knowing they have a campsite reserved for the night.”
