They may never see the inside of a Happy Meal, but 200,000 chicken nuggets salvaged from a Melbourne truck accident are feeding the vulnerable and homeless.
Salvation Army Major Brendan Nottle told AAP the “sensational” food donation – which has been kept in cold storage – would feed rough sleepers at the Melbourne meal centre for a number of weeks.
"It's amazing to see the impact of something as simple as chicken nuggets can have on people," he said.
"It's just been sensational."
More than a million nuggets were involved in the Hume Freeway crash last Thursday morning, which also sparked major traffic delays.
While the driver was not injured in the incident, three fire trucks worked at the scene to clear around 1400 litres of diesel, which had spilled on the road.
