Independent Member for Wagga, Dr Joe McGirr has called for obstetrics services to be restored at Tumut, and for an interim model of care to be put in place while the process is underway.

Dr. McGirr made the call following an announcement from the Murrumbidgee Local Health District that birthing services are no longer available at Tumut.

It means local women would have to travel around an hour to Wagga to have their babies.

Alternatives are currently being investigated.
