The Bruce Bishop Car Park has been sold for $48 million despite legal action underway by a local group to stop the sale.

Council voted to sell the 1.8 hectare block in Surfers Paradise jointly to Care Park and Far East Constortium, with the money raised paying for a new art gallery and green bridge, as well as upgrading the bridge across the Isle Of Capri.

The car park will continue to operate as normal for at least a decade, before a tower featuring a hotel, units and businesses is eventually developed at the site.

Gold Coast City Council is now waiting on a decision from the Supreme Court before finalising the deal.
