If you’ve come here with the intention of having your day improved by 1000%, then buckle up because we have some incredible news for you.
A brand new Broadway musical is currently in the works following the story of fairytale characters and featuring a soundtrack of only Britney Spears songs.
Theatre owner James L. Nederlander announced he will be producing the show titled Once Upon a One More Time and Britney is totally on board, already having attended on of the script readings!
So what’s the show about?
The story will follow classic fairytale princesses like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Rapunzel who discover Betty Friedan’s iconic feminist book The Feminine Mystique.
Naturally, the characters’ lives change after being presented with these modern ideas.
“Cinderella is having an existential crisis, and she has a posse of famous princesses, and her stepmother is the main antagonist, and there’s also Prince Charming and a dwarf we’ve never met — the eighth dwarf — and a narrator who is unhappy his system is being dismantled before his eyes,” writer Jon Hartmere told the New York Times.
“These women have been in this hermetically sealed world, and then they start to get deeper into modern ideas — second and third-wave feminism — and also explore how stories are passed down to us, and where we get our norms from. But it’s also superfun and funny.”
We can also expect a solid 23 Britney Spears songs performed!
“I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore,” Britney said in a press release.
"This is a dream come true for me!"
The show will be written by Jon Hartmere (The Upside, Bare), directed by Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages), and be choreographed by Keone and Mari Madrid (World of Dance; Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’).
Once Upon a One More Time will begin previews from October 29, and will run from November 13 - December 1 in Chicago. The show will take over the Michael Jackson jukebox musical Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough, which was scheduled to run during this time and at this theatre.
After running in Chicago, it’s expected the musical will head to Broadway!
