If you're the type of person who likes to go to a nice café for coffee, but you're not a fan of crowds, then heading to a place that's basically hidden away from the main street might be something you should think about.
If you've been wandering around Queen Street Mall for a while and are looking for some peace and quiet, as well as a killer coffee, then John Mills Himself is a café that should definitely be on your radar.
Hidden behind a loading dock off of Elizabeth Street, John Mills Himself is a quiet sanctuary in the heart of Brisbane where you can grab a drink and have a chat with someone you haven't seen in a while, without the crowds and in an Instagram-worthy setting.
The café sits at the bottom of a heritage building which is one of the largest heritage brick buildings on Charlotte Street.
It was named after John Mills, who was a printer, built his office, printery workshop and warehouse on the site in 1919.
The building is now home to the café, Archive Books, one of the biggest second-hand bookshops in the city and a variety of other businesses.
John Mills Himself is quite a small café, however, they make up for that small space by creating a relaxing atmosphere, making excellent coffee and sweet treats!
Plus, on some nights during the week, the café transforms into a bar from 4pm!
You can pop in for a few beers, cocktails, or a glass of wine on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and if you have a special occasion to celebrate, you can also book the whole place out for your own shindig!
John Mills Himself is one of Brisbane's hidden gems!
