Borobi is set to dust himself off and walk out of storage today.

Following a previous trademark issue, the Commonwealth Games Federation has now agreed to let the surfing blue koala return to the Gold Coast as the city's new mascot.

Under the agreement the CGF will allow Borobi to be used for non-commercial purposes, and is expected to be used at community events such as the Mayor's Christmas Carols.

It comes more than 12 months since the 2018 event.

A number of CGF officials were expected to join with Mayor Tom Tate to make the announcement on Friday.
