An early Christmas present for the Hunter today.

The Bogey Hole will be officially reopened to the public, after being closed for more than a year.

It was shut off to the public in November 2015, after a report commissioned by the Newcastle Council found there was a risk that rocks from the adjoining cliff face could fall onto the path or in the water.

"I know this must have been anxiously waited for by the public," said Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald. "It's safe and ready to go."

A number of urgent safety repairs have now been completed with stage one completely wrapped up.

Stage two involves work on the paths around King Edward Park and at the top of the cliff, and will get underway shortly.
